For the Tech-Free Challenge I will be using levels 3-4. That means I will use only technologythey had from the years 1950 to 1975. I am hoping I can try to stay more towards the 1950s, as it seems to be a more fair challenge for me.
I am not really sure how difficult this may be. I do not see much of a challenge for these years. I believe I can easily live this way for a longer period if need be. The next level at 1900-1850 with no electricity would be difficult because I have a lot of work to do and having no electricity would make that too diffiucult to do. I would not be able to complete the work beacuse I would be focusing on getting warm rather than read a book for school.
For the challenge I chose, I will be giving up internet, computers, cellphones, DVDs, VHS, recorded shows (like a Tivo), microwaves, MP3 players, hand help video games, console video games, CDs and CD players, fast food and takeout options, and the possible no television (by the way, which was not used in the challenge once). I do not really use DCDs, VHS, CDs or video games consols that much, so giving that up will not be a real challenge to me. I don't use MP3 players or cell hpones at my house, so that also wont be any challenge. I dislike fastfood so thats not a challenge either. The things I do use are computers, internet, Tivo substitute, and television. Giving up those will be more of a challenge. I was planing on working on college work, however, that is online now and therefor I can not do much with that, if any. I also do watch TV and even more since I have given up playing video games for over 3 weeks. Givin up that will be pretty difficult. If I was into a lot of reading, this would be a lot easier, as books were invented a long time ago (or so I hear...). Given the challenges, I do not see this as a challenge for survival, but rather a challenge to fight bordome, and for those reasons I believe I will be ok.
I honestly do not see me learning much from this. Maybe I can learn to not rely on internet as the main source of information. I also may learn how to deal with bordome a lot better and in ways other than visual screens, how to prepare food fast without a microwave, and how to orginize my work not by convienence but rather by available tools for completion. by that last point I mean I will not be able to research on the internet for the day, so during that time I can only complete things that I can do without the internet and other tools which are not allowed, making the need to be able to orginize the work I have that way all that more important in order to complete anything.
